Co-first authors Noor Singh and Kayt Scott's paper, with an assist from undergraduate lab alum Jay Proctor, was published in G3 today! We found that many of the Rab family of GTPases are required for normal gonad development. The gene rab-1 has both cell-autonomous and non-cell-autonomous roles in somatic gonad and germline development. RNAi knockdown of rab-1 in somatic cells of the reproductive system caused a range of developmental defects including in cell migraiton, but surprisingly not in stem-cell-niche signaling. We discuss our results in the context of important signaling events between the soma and germline. Thanks to all the authors for their great work!
